Palmetto Christian may be on to something in Region II.
Since joining SCISA Class AA Region II in 2012, the Eagles have yet to lose a regular season region game in 20 contests. Tuesday, they completed their second straight perfect region season with a 63-55 road win over South Aiken Baptist.
Palmetto Christian (13-10, 10-0) earns a No. 1 seed and first round bye in the Region II tournament.
It took a strong finish Tuesday for the Eagles to pick up their 20th straight win. Palmetto Christian entered the second half trailing by six points but outscored South Aiken 41-27 through the final 16 minutes.
Joe Siegwald and Ben German both turned in double-doubles as part of five Eagles who scored at least 11 points. Siegwald scored 14 points with 12 rebounds and four steals, while German scored 11 with 11 rebounds. J.T. Waters, Chris DeMarco and Will Tuchfarber each scored 11 points; Waters added five steals.
South Aiken scored 14 points in both of the first two quarters but was limited to just eight in the third while Palmetto Christian took a one-point lead. Both teams turned in their highest-scoring quarter of the night in the final frame but Palmetto Christian sealed the win with a 26-point effort.
The Eagles will face the winner of the Saturday's No. 4 vs. No. 5 seed game on Monday at 7:30 p.m.
Lady Eagles take third
The Palmetto Christian Lady Eagles topped South Aiken Baptist, 60-34, Tuesday on the road to secure third place in Region II.
Corey Caulder led Palmetto Christian with a game-high 34 points and 11 rebounds, and Lizzie Wilson added 11 points and 10 boards.
Palmetto Christian (12-12, 7-3) dominated from the tip, allowing South Aiken just nine points through the first half to open a 25-point halftime advantage.
The Lady Eagles will enter the Region II tournament as the No. 3 seed against South No. 6 South Aiken Baptist Saturday.
