Charleston company BiblioLabs and the Charleston County School District (CCSD) have partnered to bring the BiblioBoard Mobile Library to all 84 schools in the district. The joint agreement will allow perpetual access to the Patrons First platform — and its digital collections of books, images, audio, video and other resources — for CCSD’s 46,000-plus students.
BiblioBoard is a “Patrons First mobile library” meaning that its interface and content organization have been designed with the mobile user in mind. Content is curated thematically and available on the web, smartphones and as a native app on all major tablets.
“BiblioBoard is a wonderful complement to our existing work around digital literacy and our goal of ensuring that all CCSD students graduate with the skills necessary to compete in the global marketplace,” said Dr. Nancy McGinley, Superintendent of Schools.
BiblioBoard is already available to all students, and the platform will be available perpetually at no additional cost to the district, students or taxpayers. Staff members from BiblioLabs have been training school liaisons, including educators at Charleston Progressive Academy, who are using BiblioBoard as an interim substitute while their physical library and media center is being completed.
“This is a local company that’s making a significant local contribution. This builds a 21st century digital-content ecosystem to fill out our new 21st century buildings,” said Alex Opoulos, WINGS For Kids board member.
