Bishop England junior B.J. Grevey scored his 1,000th point Friday as the Bishops fell, 62-47, to Ridgeland at home.

Grevey scored a game-high 14 points, reaching the career milestone with a free throw in the fourth quarter. He joins Lady Bishops seniors Michele Boykin and Mary Harriet Moore, who joined the exclusive club earlier this season.

Ridgeland (18-5, 13-1) entered Friday with the Class AA Region VI championship and No. 1 playoff seed already in hand. With the loss, Bishop England (11-13, 7-7) now awaits the results of Saturday’s games to decide their playoff fate.

If Burke and Academic Magnet both lose, the Bishops are in as the Region VI No. 4 seed. If Burke and Academic Magnet both win, the region would have a three-team playoff Sunday and Monday for the fourth playoff spot. If either wins and the other loses, Bishop England plays the winner Monday.

Bishop England struggled to find an offensive rhythm early Friday, instead relying on 6-7 free-throw shooting to keep pace in the first quarter. The Bishops managed four field goals through the first half, while Ridgeland opened an eight-point lead in the second quarter.

Terrance Frazier helped extend a 14-point Ridgeland lead with 10 points in the third. The Bishops turned in their highest-scoring quarter of the night with 16 points in the fourth but couldn’t slow Ridgeland’s offense long enough to threaten.

T.J. Frazier scored 12, and C.J. Mitchell added 11 to lead Ridgeville. Dillon Corbett and Robert Butler both scored nine for Bishop England.

The Bishops will now wait and see, as Burke faces North Charleston and Academic Magnet travels to Battery Creek Saturday.
