Coastal Christian and Palmetto Christian both picked up wins in the first round of their respective region tournaments last weekend.
Coastal (8-12, 2-8) knocked off Cathedral, 54-35, in the first round of the SCISA Class A Region III tournament Friday. Success was short-lived as Coastal was eliminated Saturday with a 65-46 second-round loss to Christian Academy.
Seth White led all scorers Friday with 23 points, Raequan Gregg added 13 and Sam Fletcher 10. Coastal jumped out to an 11-point lead by halftime and built a 15-point advantage headed into the fourth quarter. Cathedral had just three players score in the game.
Gregg scored 28 points Saturday, but was Coastal’s only player in double figures. Bernard James scored 18 points in the first half and added another 11 in the third quarter to lead Christian.
Coastal now awaits the end of the region tournament to see if it will be selected to the SCISA Class A state tournament.
The Palmetto Christian Lady Eagles rolled past South Aiken Baptist, 52-21, Saturday in the opening round of the SCISA Class AA Region II girls tournament at Dorchester Academy.
Corey Caulder scored 28 points on 11-14 shooting, Lizzie Wilson scored eight points with five steals, and Parker Emerson added four assists and six steals.
Palmetto Christian built a 17-point lead through the first quarter and limited South Aiken Baptist to just 17 points through the final three quarters.
The Lady Eagles advance to face Holly Hill on Monday. The two split the season series, each winning one at home.
Palmetto Christian had a first-round bye in the Region II boys tournament and will face Calhoun Academy Monday at Dorchester Academy. The Eagles won both games against Calhoun this season by a combined 29 points.
