In 1968, the Moultrie News had taken a strong hold on community news coverage. In June of that year, the front page featured Thomas Harrell Barr, William Winston Miller and Summie Thomas Worley as graduates of The Citadel.
Col. Sanders of Kentucky Fried Chicken visited Mount Pleasant May 16 as a special guest of the South Carolina Chiropractors Assocaition Spring Convention.
In addition, Moultrie High School named their JV Cheeleaders for the 1968-1969 football and basketball seasons, including: rising freshmen Linda Dayhoff, Ruthy Kirchner, Robin Thompkins, Joy Shuler and alternate, Debbie Kimmer. Rising sophomores included Linna Burke, Wanda Collins, Tina Psaras, Gwen West, and alternate, Carol Cannon.
Sadly, the parents of Warrant Officer Robert G. Johnson received word their son had been wounded in the leg while flying a search-and-destroy mission near Chu Lai, Vietnam.
He had been in Vietnam since November and was the son of Captain and Mrs. E.L. Johnson (USAR RET) of the Isle of Palms.
And oddly enough, some fashion trends come full circle. Check out these tips from 1968.
