The Bishop England Lady Bishops dominated Edisto, 98-23, in the opening round of the SCHSL Class AA playoffs Thursday on Daniel Island.
Bishop England (23-1) turned in a 34-point first quarter, built off 12 points from Michele Boykin, and nine from Mary Harriet Moore.
Nine Lady Bishops scored in the second quarter, while Bishop England’s defense allowed Edisto just one field goal. By the break, four players had scored at least nine points for Bishop England whose lead had ballooned to 51 points.
The Lady Bishops went nearly the entire second half without their starters and were still able to maintain their high defensive intensity. Edisto was limited to two field goals or fewer in each of the first three quarters, finally managing a third goal in the fourth.
Boykin finished with a game-high 24 points. Moore scored 13, Jo Jo Tompkins 10, and McQueeney nine. Tamiya Singleton led Edisto with 10 points but didn’t have a teammate score more than six.
Bishop England will host No. 3 seed Academic Magnet Saturday in the second round. Academic Magnet defeated No. 2 Silver Bluff, 33-22, Thursday. Bishop England and Academic Magnet met twice in the Region VI season. The Lady Bishops won both by a combined 79 points.
