Coastal earns first-round win

Raequan Gregg scored a game-high 29 points to help Coastal Christian to a 55-49 win over St. Francis Xavier Saturday in the opening round of the SCISA Class A playoffs.

No. 5 seeded Coastal turned a two-point first quarter deficit into a two-point halftime lead with two threes from Aaron Schnupp and tight defense that allowed No. 4 seed St. Francis just three made field goals.

After a six-point first half, Gregg heated up in the second, pouring in 23 points on 50 percent shooting through the final 16 minutes. Coastal (9-12) stretched its two-point halftime lead to a five-point advantage with 14 points from Gregg in the third quarter.

Sam Fletcher scored eight points and Schnupp added six for Coastal. Leighton Savage led St. Francis with 16 points, Jay McFadden scored 14 and Dalton Foreman 12.

Coastal advances to face No. 1 seed Laurens Academy in the second round Tuesday at Orangeburg Prep.
