Bishop Englandís Michele Boykin rises over the Academic Magnet defense Saturday in the Bishopís second-round playoff win.

As dominant as they already were in region play, the Bishop England Lady Bishops seem to be getting even stronger in the postseason.

Bishop England (24-1) rolled past Academic Magnet, 70-27, at home Saturday in the second round of the SCHSL Class AA playoffs.

The win marks the third time this season the Lady Bishops have beaten Academic Magnet. Bishop England opened region play in December with a 26-point win over the Raptors, picked up a second win in January by 33 points, and completed the sweep Saturday with the 43-point drubbing.

Twelve Lady Bishops scored Saturday, nine turning in at least four points. Bishop England scored at least 15 points in every quarter but didnít allow Academic Magnet more than 12 in any.

The Raptors managed just two made field goals in the first half, while Bishop England built a 28-point lead. Michele Boykin and Caroline McQueeney both scored 10 points in the first half for Bishop England. Mary Harriet Moore turned in six in the first quarter and another six in the third. With a 30-point lead early in the second half, Bishop England was able to rest its starters for most of the third quarter and all of the fourth.

Academic Magnet (18-5) was limited to 18 percent shooting on the night while giving up 19 steals to the Bishopsí pressure. Cara Pugh led the Raptors with 11 points. No other player scored more than five for Academic Magnet.

Boykin finished with a game-high 14 points. Moore added 12, and McQueeney 10.

Bishop England will host Battery Creek, another Region VI opponent, Tuesday in the third round. The Lady Bishops won their two games against Battery Creek this season by a combined 42 points.
