Palmetto Christian Academy boys and girls basketball both picked up wins in the opening round of the SCISA Class AA playoffs last week.
The Palmetto Christian boys (15-11) topped Thomas Heyward Academy, 69-45, Saturday to follow the Lady Eagles' 46-30 win over Pee Dee Academy on Friday.
The No. 5 seeded Lady Eagles (16-11) advance to face No. 1 seed Richard Winn Monday at the Sumter Civic Center, while the No. 2 seeded Palmetto Christian boys will meet No. 3 seed Bible Baptist Tuesday at Wilson Hall.
Palmetto Christian boys 69, Thomas Heyward 45
Palmetto Christian bookended its night with big first and fourth quarters to pick up a convincing first-round win over No. 7 seed Thomas Heyward Saturday at Pinewood Prep.
The Eagles jumped out to an early 10-point lead with 18 points in the first quarter. They slowly stretched their lead throughout the second and third quarters before ringing up 23 points in the fourth to run away with the win.
Chris DeMarco led all scorers with 16 points to go with seven rebounds for Palmetto Christian. Joe Siegwald added 15 points, 12 rebounds and five assists, and Will Tuchfarber added 11 points and five rebounds. The Eagles shot 48 percent from inside the three-point arc as a team.
Palmetto Christian girls 46, Pee Dee 30
Corey Caulder scored 31 of Palmetto Christian's 46 points to lead the Lady Eagles to an opening-round win over No. 4 seed Pee Dee Friday at Wilson Hall.
Palmetto Christian's defense allowed Pee Dee just 11 points through the first three quarters. The Lady Eagles struggled to find their offense early, allowing Pee Dee to stay tied through the first quarter but scored 29 points through the second and third to outpace Pee Dee and break the game open.
Palmetto Christian held Pee Dee scoreless in the second quarter to take a 12-point lead into halftime. The Lady Eagles offense was even stronger after halftime, tallying 17 points to build a 23-point advantage heading into the fourth.
Caulder turned in eight rebounds, four steals and five blocks with her big scoring night. Annie Pascutti added 12 points with five rebounds for Palmetto Christian.
