The Footlight Players, South Carolina’s longest-producing theatre company, is thrilled to present this offbeat story of romance, murder and alien abduction, The Sugar Bean Sisters by Nathan Sanders. Don Brandenburg directs this over-the-top fantastical story of two sisters who live in a most mysterious yet marvelous place, the swamp. Onstage March 7, 8, 13, 14, 15, 20, 21 and 22 at 8 p.m. and March 16 and 23 at 3 p.m.
Hailed during its initial off-Broadway run, The Sugar Bean Sisters revolves around two eccentric sisters, Willie Mae and Faye Clementine Nettles, played by Footlight’s very own Director of Development, Melonea Marek, and Board Member, Yvonne Harold. Stuck in a Florida swamp near Disney World, the Nettles sisters are determined to escape spinsterhood by hopping the next spaceship out of town, and they’re not going to let the arrival of a snake charmer, a handsome Mormon Bishop, and a mysterious bird woman stand in their way. Performances of The Sugar Bean Sisters are March 7, 8, 13, 14, 15, 20, 21 and 22 at 8 p.m. and March 16 and 23 at 3 p.m. Performances will be held at the Footlight Players Theatre.
