Four Wando wrestlers qualified at last weekend‘s SCHSL Class 4A Lower State individuals tournament in Beaufort to advance to the upcoming state finals in Anderson.

Wrestlers had to finish fourth or better to advance. In the consolation finals, Alex Cullen finished fourth at 120 pounds with a 12-9 loss to White Knoll's Rian Burress. Tyler Egonut finished fourth at 152 pounds with a loss by decision to Fort Dorchester's A.J. Alford.

Hunter Allen took second at 220 pounds, falling by decision, 9-3, to Beaufort's Kentrell Seabrook in the championship finals. Ben Crutchfield captured the Lower State individual championship with a 7-4 win over Dutch Fork's Josh Davis at 132 pounds. Cullen, Egonut, Allen and Crutchfield all advance to the state finals for Wando.

“We wrestled well as a whole,” Wando head coach Adam Schneider said. “We also had three individuals one win from qualifying, so it was a great weekend.”

This season marks Crutchfield's third straight trip to the state finals. He finished fourth at state last season. Cullen will be making his second appearance, while Egonut and Allen are both state finalists for the first time.

Friday, Cullen will open against Gaffney's Austin Chandler in the state finals. Crutchfield will face Clover's Jharee Kerns. Egonut will take on Charlie Conner of Byrnes, and Allen will face Clover's Zach Conrad.
