Art auction benefitting Autism Speaks

  • Saturday, March 8, 2014

Autism Speaks' Carolinas communities announce “Master Pieces for Autism Charleston,” an art auction benefitting Autism Speaks, to be held Friday, March 14 at the Embassy Suites in downtown Charleston from 6:30-9 p.m. The silent auction will feature original artwork made from puzzle piece shapes and designed by more than thirty different celebrities, artists, as well as and individuals on the autism spectrum.

Celebrity artists include Jeff Bridges, Edwin McCain, Grace Slick, Dabo Swinney, Jesse McCartney, Carolyn Murray, Michael Cartellone, The Ace and TJ show, Bernie Taupin and more. National artists include Michael Godard, Charles Fazzino, Alexandra Nechita and Romero Britto. Local artists include Ann Marie McKay, Dustin Harrell and Joy Halstead. There will also be a football signed by Steve Spurrier and an autographed photo of Ernie Els up for bid.

The puzzle piece serves as a symbol for autism awareness because of the complexity of the disorder. Each guest artist begins with the same provided puzzle piece shape. What they do with it is completely up to the artists. Event chair Karen Raduazo says, “We are excited to hold the first annual Master Pieces for Autism in Charleston. This is such a fun way to raise awareness about autism and demonstrate the potential of individuals on the autism spectrum.”

All bidding for the auction will be electronic. Bidders are encouraged to register online ahead of time and bring their smartphones or other mobile devices to the event. Early online bidding will begin Feb. 14 through the night of the event. Tickets for the event are $25 per person in advance or $35 per person at the door (cash or check). RSVP is required. To purchase advance tickets/RSVP, email masterpiecesforautism@gmail.com or call 251-895-8473. Payment for auction items must be cash or check.
