Jessica Branton, the Youth Development and Volunteer Manager from Pet Helpers, and Kaeru

Whitesides Elementary fifth-graders in Mrs. McCall's classes completed a math project in which they hypothetically built a dog pen in their backyards. The students had to decide what the area and perimeter would be based on, the characteristics and size of the dog they chose, and graph it out on graph paper. The students then had to pick a fencing type and calculate the total cost. As a follow up to this activity, Jessica Branton, the Volunteer and Youth Development Manager of Pet Helpers, came and brought Kaeru, a lovable, well-behaved, adoptable pooch to share with both of Mrs. McCall's math classes. Students were very generous in their cat food and dog food donations to help restock the food bank at Pet Helpers. It's hard to say who enjoyed the visit more, Kaeru or the kids!
