Pelican Visits Whitesides

  • Saturday, March 8, 2014

Wednesday, Feb. 19, PE classes at Whitesides Elementary had a special guest. A pelican decided he wanted to visit the classes on the baseball field and observe the activities. He arrived in the morning hours and stayed for a good portion of the day. At lunch he followed the kids back to the building and perched on top of the cafeteria while the students ate lunch.

The bird was caught and brought to the Birds of Prey Center where he will spend a short vacation from his pelican duties receiving rehab. Once rested up, word has it the pelican will be brought back to the school and released back into the wild.
