Striped Pig Distillery’s spirits available statewide

  • Monday, March 10, 2014

Striped Pig Distillery offers rum, vodka and their very own brand of ‘Shine.

Charleston's first distillery, Striped Pig Distillery, has now made their spirits available statewide. They opened their doors on Oct. 1, 2013, and after only three months on the market, this micro-distillery that handcrafts all of their spirits from scratch announced that their products are now available throughout South Carolina. Don't assume, though, that since they are now distributed statewide, that you will easily find their spirits. Striped vodka, rum and ‘Shine are quickly selling out.

Head distiller Johnny Pieper said, “We focus on making quality spirits from local ingredients and leave the rest up to the consumer. I think people appreciate that our product is made the classic way. We are just trying to make great spirits accessible to everyone. We grow our corn, used to make our vodka and 120 proof ‘Shine at Myer's Farm in Bowman, S.C. and our molasses is from nearby Savannah, Ga.”

The Striped Pig team has made a serious and unique splash in the Charleston and Hilton Head markets with their tasty spirits. Vice President Jim Craig can often be found with their official mascot, Jackson the Striped Pig, by his side. Usually in a bow tie with a big smile on his face and a briefcase of Striped Pig, spotting Craig and his sidekick is a sight to be seen. Now that Striped Pig is distributed statewide, Craig and Jackson are traveling the state sharing Charleston's spirit. Growing at a pound a day, Jackson's size seems to go hand-in-hand with Striped Pig Distillery's growing success.

Support your local distillery and ask for Striped spirits at your local liquor stores, bars and restaurants. Striped Pig Distillery offers free tours and tastings at their distillery in Charleston Wednesday through Friday from 3-7 p.m. and Saturday from noon to 5 p.m. You can also schedule your own tour by visiting their website at www.stripedpigdistillery.com.
