Wando track opened its season with a dominant first-place team finish in last weekend’s Sandlapper Classic at West Ashley High School.
Wando racked up 273 team points, more than 130 above second-place James Island. The Warriors boys finished first with 158 points, while the girls took second with 115 points, just 12 off of first-place Miller Grove.
Kenny Waring was awarded the meet’s Most Outstanding Runner, finishing first in the 100-meter and long jump, second in the 200, and third in 400.
Wando placed first in the boys 400 relay, and second in the 800 and 1600 relay. Kato Junior finished first in the boys 400 and second in the 110 hurdles. Peter Pinkney took second in the 100, A.J. Gawryluck second in the 1600, and Chance Price third in the triple jump and pole vault.
Wando girls placed fourth in the 100 relay. Rosa Marie Compton took second in the 800 and third in the 1600. Sarah Lee finished first in the pole vault and third in the 400. Angelica Collins won second in the triple jump and fourth in the long jump.
