Charleston County School District's Parent University will host the 3rd Annual Girls Summit: Raising Successful Daughters in the 21st Century to be held on Saturday, March 29. This special districtwide event will feature speakers, panelists, and workshops for both parents and female students.

What: Among the highlights scheduled for the day:
• South Carolina State House of Representative Gilda Cobb-Hunter will serve as keynote speaker for the event. She was the first African American woman in Orangeburg County ever elected to a statewide office and the first person of color to ever lead a legislative caucus. She has served on numerous community boards throughout the years including: Community Development Advisory Committee for the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond, Planned Parenthood of South Carolina, South Carolina Fair Share, South Carolina Low Income Housing Coalition, South Carolina SAFEKIDS, and Grassroots Leadership.
• Interactive parent workshops will feature community leaders speaking specifically on issues of raising girls. Scheduled panelists include Ms. Deborah Blalock, Ms. Sarah Coleman-Lee, Ms. Lydia Cotton, Dr. Angela Cozart, Judge Stephanie McDonald, Dr. Sharvette Slaughter, Ms. Tessa Spencer, and Mrs. Cheryl Swinton.
• The Summit's Resource Fair: Creating a College-Bound Culture for Young Women will provide information and resources from regional colleges and universities to assist parents and young women with preparation for higher education. A Girls Academy for female students in grades 1-12 will include speakers, panels, and workshops. In addition, a structured children's program will be provided for children ages 4-12, who will not be participating in the Summit. The event is free and open to any CCSD parent.
