Maverick Southern Kitchens cancel Boulevard project

  • Thursday, March 13, 2014

Plans for a new Maverick Southern Kitchens restaurant on Coleman Boulevard have been canceled, the company announced today.

Dick Elliott, founder and President of Maverick Southern Kitchens, said he and the new owner of The Boulevard, a mixed-use community, mutually agreed to terminate the lease contract that began last June with The Beach Company.

Construction of the restaurant was set to begin Sept. 1, 2013 when planners discovered that major building changes were needed to accommodate it. The design, engineering and permitting of the changes were complete in mid-January, just as the property was sold to an institutional investor represented locally by Greystar Real Estate Partners, LLC. The new owner estimated it would take an additional four to five months to complete construction and other preparations for operation of the restaurant. After further discussion, the new owner and Maverick Southern Kitchens agreed to terminate the lease.

“When we learned the process was delayed an additional four to five months, we decided the restaurant could not wait that much longer,” said Elliott. “We were excited to be part of the revitalization of Coleman Boulevard, so we’re disappointed that won’t happen.”

“At the same time,” Elliott continued, “we continue to enjoy operating Mount Pleasant’s most comfortable and distinctive dining at the Old Village Post House. It’s just a few blocks away from Coleman Boulevard, in the heart of the Old Village.”
