Town moves to same day trash and garbage pick-up Effective March 17

  • Thursday, March 13, 2014

To streamline operations, improve public safety and reduce traffic, the Town of Mount Pleasant Public Services Department will no longer pick up garbage and trash on separate days, said Public Services Director Jody Peele.

“Effective March 17, the sanitation crews will pick up your trash on the same day they pick up your garbage.”

The Sanitation Division performs weekly curbside collection of garbage and trash. Curbside recycling is provided by Charleston County. Garbage includes household garbage and residential medical waste that is properly disposed. Trash includes yard debris, appliances and metal, and furniture.

Household garbage is collected in your brown container.

Trash debris consists of bagged yard debris (grass clippings and small items), tree limbs, household appliances and household furniture.

Mount Pleasant trucks are on the road at 7 a.m. Your container and debris should be at the curb by that time. There is no set time for pick up. Even if collection trucks come by your house everyday at the same time, they may have to switch routes if a driver is out sick. This and other variables may cause a shift in pick-up times.

If you think the truck missed your collection, call 843-884-8518.

Please note that your current Charleston County Recycling Day remains the same. For more information, contact the Communications Office at 843-884-8517 or email mwolfe@tompsc.com.
