Zounds Hearing now open

  • Thursday, March 13, 2014

Zounds is excited to introduce the world's most technologically advanced hearing aids to the Charleston area. Zounds Hearing of Charleston is now open and welcomes residents of the Lowcountry to their newest location in Mount Pleasant.

Zounds Hearing was founded by a father who, after experiencing his daughter Kate's issues with traditional hearing aids, made it his mission to develop a superior hearing aid. As an engineer by trade, Sam Thomasson knew he could build a superior aid, enhancing Kate's quality of life – improving her speech, capability to hear in noisy environments and even her ability to hug (with traditional hearing aids this caused excruciating squealing). Sam's determination to build the perfect hearing aid produced 57 patents, eliminating background noise, improving sound quality, reducing feedback and much more.

This amazing technology is finally available to all Charleston residents.

Derrick and Nancy Woods are very excited to bring Zounds technology to the people of Charleston. After 30 years as Operations Manager in large factories, it was high time for a career and lifestyle change for Derrick. He promised his wife, Nancy, an Interior Designer, no more factory life. The allure of starting up their own business had always been looming. After a couple months of intensely researching the endless possibilities, they knew they wanted something that benefited people, especially those their age and older. When they discovered Zounds Hearing, the decision was instantly made. Imagine the satisfaction of helping people drastically improve their hearing and, in turn, their lives.

Nancy and Derrick chose the perfect market area – the beautiful Charleston Lowcountry. Then they were fortunate to join forces with a true pro, Audiologist Jennifer Bonner, M.S. CCC-A. Jennifer brings more than 15 years of experience in the hearing healthcare industry to the table. More importantly, she has a superb talent at engaging with people to help them improve their lives.

On a more personal note – Derrick has had first-hand experience with hearing loss. Upon opening, Derrick was the first customer of Zounds Hearing of Charleston – being fitted for a pair of his very own aids. He is amazed at how well he is hearing now.

Zounds invites you to visit their new hearing center and to experience the Zounds difference for yourself. Sam's devotion, coupled with his daughter Kate's needs, changed her life, the course of his career, and has also blessed the lives of many people who he has never met.
