Boykin, Runey, Eaton lead HSSR All-State teams

Bishop England guard Michele Boykin highlights a large class of East Cooper athletes on this year’s High School Sports Report winter all-state teams.

Boykin was named the HSSR 2013-14 girls statewide Player of the Year after leading the Lady Bishops to 27 wins and the Class AA state championship. Boykin averaged nearly 20 points, five rebounds, five assists and five steals per game this season.

She’s joined by Bishop England head coach Paul Runey, who was named 2013-14 statewide girls Coach of the Year. Lady Bishops center Mary Harriet Moore was selected to the girls statewide All-State team, Eran Artigues to the AA All-State team, and Caroline McQueeney and Jo Jo Tompkins to the girls All-Rookie team.

Wando boys basketball head coach David Eaton was named boys statewide Coach of the Year after leading the Warriors to 25 wins and their first Class AAAA state championship. Sophomore forward Jamez Rogers was selected to the boys statewide All-State team, while teammates Andrew Glover and Matthew Pegram were selected to the Class AAAA boys All-State team.

Bishop England guard B.J. Grevey and forward Dillon Corbett were both named to the Class AA boys All-State team.

Palmetto Christian’s Chris DeMarco, Joe Siegwald and J.T. Waters, and Coastal Christian’s Raequan Gregg all appear on the HSSR SCISA All-State boys team. Palmetto Christian guard Corey Caulder was named to the SCISA All-State girls team.

Bishop England wresters Jack Grooms and Chandler Sambets were named to the Class AA/A All-State wrestling team.

Since 1987, High School Sports Report has honored South Carolina preps with its annual all-state awards and banquets. The 2013-14 HSSR Winter Banquet honoring all-state basketball and wrestling will be held April 13 at Seawell’s in Columbia, S.C.
