The Berkeley-Charleston-Dorchester Council of Governments announced that a workshop open to the public will be held at its office at the Navy Yard on Tuesday, April 1, from 5-7 p.m.

The purpose of this workshop is to inform residents and property owners from the City of North Charleston and Charleston County about a Transfer of Development Rights Feasibility Study that is currently being conducted. The study area contains the Airfield Clear Zone and Accident Potential Zones of the Charleston Air Force Base. The Transfer of Development Rights Feasibility Study will evaluate existing land uses and entitlements along with market-driven, voluntary programs that may assist in redirecting certain types of land uses away from Accident Potential Zone areas, while encouraging redevelopment and investment in the urban core of the Charleston region.

The Transfer of Development Rights Feasibility Study is being conducted as part of the implementation of the recommendations contained within the Joint Land Use Study prepared for the Charleston Air Force Base in 2008. The project staff and consulting team will be available to answer questions and discuss citizen input. Interested parties are encouraged to attend, view project maps and comment on the study. The BCD Council of Governments' office is located at 1362 McMillan Ave., Suite 100 in North Charleston, S.C.
