This week in print - We’re gearing up for our April celebration

We asked and you answered! According to reader, David Brandli this photo was taken in 2007. "What a great time for Wando Cross Country," he said. "And many good years followed under coach Doman." Pictured are Tara Hadstein, Lucy Rummler, Tara Hadstein, Dabney Sampson, Lauren Dinicola, Laura McLaughlin, and Madeline Fitts. Marne Rummler also emailed to say the team captain there with the red hair is Laura Jean Varadi. "This was the 2007 Wando Girls Varsity team at the regional cross country meet in Wannamaker Park.  All the runners had to run thru mud but had a great time," she said.

The first big event held in honor of the Moultrie News’ 50th birthday is almost upon us. Who’s going to join us?

The Moultrie News invites you to join us in celebrating the 50 years we have been in your neighborhood. We are excited to be a part of the East Cooper community and to kick off our celebration at Awendaw Green. Join us for a day of family fun featuring Family Day at Awendaw Green, 4879 U.S. 17.

On Sunday, April 27 from 3-8 p.m. this free event will feature local school bands and choirs, a frisbee golf contest, and a tailgate decorating contest followed by lots of fun into the evening with a great lineup of local musicians. Food will be provided by some of Charleston’s best food trucks.

In addition, we’re very excited to partner with Carolina Studios for this exciting event. Carolina Studios was formed in 2001. Part of the proceeds will go to Carolina Studios.

Its founders had a shared passion for music and a deep concern for the community’s at-risk youth. They realized that young people could describe their experiences through music and song creation, offering a great opportunity to express themselves. The program could become a vehicle for youth to grow and develop in a fun and safe environment.

The children are encouraged to develop their potential through the exploration of digital recording, digital photography, videography and graphic arts.

Furthermore, children are able to develop core computer skills and behavioral skills needed for their ongoing education and their future careers. Learn more about our year-long celebration by visiting www.moultrienews.com.
