On July 19, Historic Rock Hill will kick off their “75th Year, Still One Gear” Tour to commemorate a historic ride from Rock Hill to the 1939 World's Fair in Flushing, N.Y. by 64-year-old businessman James Spratt White, II. White acted as the Chamber of Commerce's goodwill ambassador for Rock Hill, spreading the message that “Rock Hill is a Good Town” through 10 states and more than 800 miles. Seventy-five years later, his great-grandson, James Spratt White, V, will recreate the journey on a replica of his great-grandfathers trusty bike, “Old Betsy.” The journey, which begins July 19, will take two weeks, and will be documented via Facebook and a video blog.
