Bishop England senior Mary Harriet Moore had many options for her future, and this week she decided on one.
An all-state star athlete in both basketball and volleyball, Moore committed to play volleyball for the Davidson College Wildcats next season.
Moore led Bishop England to 30 wins and its 13th straight Class AA volleyball state championship in 2013. A 6-foot-1 middle blocker, she turned in 345 kills, 140 blocks and 44 aces off serve.
Moore garnered a long list of accolades for her outstanding senior season. Among them, a second-team MaxPreps.com small schools All-American nod. She was named Class AA Player of the Year by the S.C. Coaches Association for Women’s Sports, an all-state selection by the High School Sports Report and won MVP honors while leading her team to a win in the North-South All-Star game.
“She’s a very smart player with really good court awareness,” Bishop England volleyball coach Cindy Baggot said. “It’s unbelievable the way she sees things out there. She can mix it up with a balance of power and a soft touch. She’s really stepped up as a leader for us and pretty much controls the game.”
Beginning in the 2014-15 season, Davidson will compete in the Division I Atlantic 10 Conference. Last season, Davidson finished 16-14 overall, 7-9 in the Southern Conference. Davidson has inked five players for the freshman class of 2014, including two middle blockers.
Moore will sign her letter of intent Friday at Bishop England.
