The Charleston Junior Stingrays 16U hockey team won the Congressional Cup Spring Classic Midget Minor championship last week in Washington, D.C.

The Stingrays finished the tournament with a goal differential of nine after big wins propelled them through the three-day event.

The Stingrays defeated the Victory Stars (Md.), 5-0, in the opening round. The following day, they topped the New Jersey Freeze (N.J.), 5-1, before tying the New York City Skyliners (N.Y.), 2-2, later that night.

In the semifinal round, the No. 1 seeded Stingrays rolled past the No. 4 Freeze, 6-0. That afternoon, the Stingrays defeated the Reston Raiders (Va.), 2-1, in the championship round to earn the tournament title.

The win marks the Stingraysí second tournament championship this year. In January, the Stingrays won the Midget 16U Martin Luther King tournament in Orlando, Fla. with wins over teams from Florida and Georgia.
