It took three overtimes, but Wando earned its revenge.
A week ago on Daniel Island, Bishop England dealt Wando its first loss of the season. Wednesday in Mount Pleasant, the Lady Warriors returned the favor.
Wando topped Bishop England, 18-17, in sudden-death overtime to hand the Bishops their first loss of the season.
A minute into the third overtime, Wando attack Casey Costello scooped the ball 20 yards from the goal, worked her way down in front of the crease and netted the sudden-death game-winner. The goal was Costello’s sixth of the game, second in overtime.
In the final 11 seconds of the second overtime, Wando (8-1) was awarded possession off penalties three times in the Bishops’ attack area. On the third, Costello scored to tie the match and force the third overtime.
Bishop England (6-1) trailed by as many as four goals twice in the second half. In the final eight minutes of regulation, Dorothy Navarro, Ellie Burton and Isabel Burnett scored three straight for the Bishops to force overtime.
Taylor Kennington led Bishop England with six goals. The Bishops trailed, 10-6, two minutes into the second half before Kennington scored twice in less than 20 seconds, both off assists from Elena Bosco. Bishop England outscored Wando 9-6 in the second half.
Bishop England returns home to face Spring Valley Friday, while Wando will host Chapin Saturday.
