Cane Bay lefty Cody Maw threw a complete-game shutout in a 1-0 win over Wando Monday in Summerville.
Maw limited Wando (7-3, 3-2) to a season-low three hits while striking out six with no walks over seven innings. Warriors starter Tyler Kimbrell battled Maw into the seventh inning, allowing one earned run off four hits and three walks while striking out four.
Kimbrell struck out the leadoff hitter in the bottom of the seventh before loading the bases with two walks and a hit batter. Wando’s relief got off two pitches before Tanner Coleman laid a bunt down the third-base line to bring home the winning run.
Wando hit .136 as a team and left two runners stranded in scoring position. The Warriors had their best scoring opportunity in the fifth as Barrett Walton singled to right field and Tyler Ackard was hit by a pitch to put two on with one out. Wando fouled out in the next at-bat before Maw ended the inning with a strikeout.
Oliver Hill singled to center in the first inning, and Kep Brown singled to left in the second for Wando’s only other hits.
Coleman and Jacob Page both hit 2 for 3 to lead Cane Bay.
The Warriors have a chance to even the series Wednesday as they host Cane Bay at Warrior Field in Mount Pleasant. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.
