Walter Eugene Welton

Chief Petty Officer Walter “Walt” Eugene Welton, CTOC (USN Ret), 76, of McClellanville, South Carolina, husband of the late Marlies Lottholz Welton, passed away on Tuesday, March 25, 2014. His memorial service will be held aboard the USS Yorktown at 11 a.m. on Sunday, April 6. Interment will follow. A reception will be held on the USS Yorktown following the service/inurnment with family accepting friends at the home of his daughter Jacqueline Welton Skinner following the conclusion of events on the USS Yorktown.


The family will receive friends Friday, April 4, from 5 to 7 p.m. in J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Mount Pleasant Chapel, 1494 Mathis Ferry Road, Mount Pleasant, S.C.


Walt was born July 30, 1937 in Vincennes, Indiana, son of the late Eugene Welton and Gladys George Welton. He was a 20-year veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in the White House Communications Agency as well as serving a tour of duty in Vietnam.


After military retirement, he worked for Bendix Field Engineering Corp. (later known as Allied Signal) and Mueller-Bore Patent Law Firm in Munich, Germany. After retirement in 2002, Walt became a member of the U.S. Naval Cryptologic Veterans Association (USNCVA) and VFW # 6444.


Walt enjoyed life with his wife of 48 years until her passing in 2009.


He is survived by his daughters, Heide Welton of Mc Clellanville, S.C. and Jacqueline Welton (Wardlaw III) Skinner of Mount Pleasant, S.C.; his grandson, Wardlaw Edwin Skinner IV of the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, N.Y.; and his granddaughter, Michaela Marlies Skinner of Mount Pleasant, S.C.
