Noah LoCascio homered twice to lead Wando past West Ashley, 5-3, Thursday at Warrior Field in Mount Pleasant.

LoCascio's two bombs accounted for all five Wando runs. Junior right-hander Jeff Gottesman earned the win on the mound, allowing two earned runs off seven hits and two walks while striking out seven over 5 2/3 innings.

Jonathan Sabo went all six innings for West Ashley, striking out nine and giving up seven hits and three walks.

West Ashley took an early two-run lead, scoring off a sacrifice fly in the first inning and an RBI single in the second.

Wando responded in the bottom of the second inning with a leadoff double into left field from Kep Brown. LoCascio tied the game in the next at-bat, sending the first pitch he saw over the left-field wall.

With two outs in the third, LoCascio struck again, this time with a three-run shot to deep center to bring home Oliver Hill and Brown.

Jordan Merritt cut into the lead with an RBI double in the bottom of the fifth, but West Ashley only managed one more hit the rest of the game. Merritt finished 2 for 3 with one RBI and a run scored.

Harrison Smith closed out the win for Wando, shutting West Ashley down with just eight pitches in the seventh inning.

West Ashley entered the game ranked No. 5 in the S.C. Baseball Coaches Association Class 4A poll. Wando's win evens the season series between the two and tightens the gap at the top of Region VII.

Wando (9-3) is back on the road Friday in the rubber match against Cane Bay. Wando lost to Cane Bay, 1-0, Monday in Summerville but rebounded with a 4-1 win Wednesday in Mount Pleasant.
