Local Arts Fest presents ‘Optical Delusions’

  • Monday, April 7, 2014

Jail Break Charleston is set to take place on Saturday, April 26 from 4-11 p.m. at the Old City Jail in Downtown Charleston. This local arts festival is in its seventh year and will present a new theme this year, “Optical Delusions.” The Old City Jail will be transformed into a funhouse with multiple exhibits and installments of optical illusions as interpreted by local artists and performers. This maze of mind-bending exhibits includes the 827 Poetry Room, fashion exhibits, interactive jailhouse projects, large-scale perception-altering art installations, a comedy room, dance performances, an offbeat artisans market, musical performances and more.

“When we first started Jail Break, we only hoped for a fun, local arts festival that brought all the arts together. But over the last seven years, it has grown to be so much more then that. We are so thankful for the support of the local community and local arts community. This year’s theme is ‘Optical Delusions’ so please know that objects in this year’s Jail Break are closer than they appear,” says Andrew Walker, owner of Entropy Arts. Artists and vendors will be selling their work and there will be food from local food trucks and alcohol available for sale. The Old City Jail is located at 21 Magazine St. in Downtown Charleston.

Musical performances include Tyler Boone, South Street, Dead 27s and New Galaxy.

Comedian line-Up includes: Dusty Slay, Evan Berke, Lauren Krass (host), Jason Groce, Lily Slay, Neil Bansil, Justin Cook, Timmy Booth, Vince Fabra, Mike Brocki, Andy Rider, Peter Schwartz, Taylor Rizzo (host), Tiny Shorts and three mystery comedians

Dance performances will include a wide mix of different styles. Dances will be choreographed by the incredible demi-gods of the Charleston dance scene.

Jail Break is presented by Entropy Arts and Ear For Music. Tickets for the festival are $15 in advance and $20 the day of the show. For the month of March a “Jailbird” special is running in which tickets are only $10. For more information or to purchase tickets, please visit www.jailbreakcharleston.com.
