Children have been playing in the Gardens at Middleton Place for over 273 years – hiding behind stately Live Oak trees, playfully peeking out from behind brightly colored Azaleas and giggling at the bouncing lambs on the Greensward. Guests may create their own family traditions as Middleton Place will again host its annual Easter Eggstravaganza on Saturday, April 19. The Egg Hunts, with 3 different age groups, will take place in the centuries old landscaped gardens and the Egg Roll will be on the Parterre Terraces above the Butterfly Lakes. The photo opportunities for your little ones in their Sunday best are endless – the Azalea Hillside is at its most colorful. There will even be a visit from the Easter Bunny.
Once all the eggs have been gathered, and the special Prize eggs are found, the fun will move to the Plantation Stableyards so children can dye the eggs themselves, adding more color to their springtime ensembles and happy little hands! Colonial games, story time and an Egg Toss will add to the Eggstravaganza festivities. Middleton Place opens at 9:00a.m. Easter Eggstravaganza starts at 10:30a.m. with activities taking place until early afternoon, but families may linger at Middleton Place and delight in the day's regular activities all afternoon. Visitors can take the new essential tour route of the Garden rooms, view heritage breed livestock and visit the artisan craft shops in the Stableyards, or tour the House Museum. The Middleton Place Restaurant will also be open, serving the Edna Lewis Luncheon Buffet from 11:00a.m.-3:00p.m., dinner from 6:00p.m.- 9:00p.m. and the Garden Market has light picnic fare available.
There is no additional charge beyond general admission to participate in Easter Eggstravaganza, however, guests are encouraged to make reservations in advance on line at www.MiddletonPlace.org. The event is free to Middleton Place Foundation members and guests of the Inn at Middleton Place. For more information on the Eggstravaganza, go to www.MiddletonPlace.org or call 843.556.6020.
The mission of the Middleton Place Foundation, a public non-profit educational trust, is to sustain the highest levels of preservation and interpretation for the collections and programs of the Middleton Place National Historic Landmark, its Gardens, House, Plantation Stableyards and affiliated properties, such as the Edmondston-Alston House.
