Breast cancer survivors unite

  • Thursday, April 17, 2014

The Lowcountry affiliate of Susan G. Komen will host its 2014 Survivor Celebration on Sunday, April 27 at the downtown Charleston Marriott from 3 to 5 p.m.

This annual event brings together survivors (including those currently battling breast cancer) from across the Komen Lowcountry Affiliate's 17-county service area and their family/ friends, known as “co-survivors,” for an educational afternoon to celebrate life, enjoy a supportive community of survivors, and honor those who have lost their battle. Registration costs $15 for survivors, $20 for co-survivors and $250 for reserved tables for 10. Registration closes on April 18 and space is limited.

The theme of this year's event revolves around the phrase, “It's in the bag.” The affiliate is encouraging everyone to bring a handbag – either an old one or one you've made. Get creative and decorate your bag, showing off what it means to you to “bag” breast cancer, once and for all. A panel of judges will select a winner who will receive a leather Rowallan handbag valued at $245. Attendees are encouraged to visit the affiliate's Facebook page for more details and to share their reason to celebrate, hope or remember.

More than 500 guests are expected to attend.

This will be the final year that the Survivor Celebration will be held in the spring as an afternoon tea. Beginning in 2015, this annual special event will have a change in format, aimed to allow our local survivors to connect more with the Komen community as a whole.

To register for this final spring Survivor Celebration, go online or call the office at 843-556-8011 to have your invitation mailed directly to you.
