Media General, Inc. has named Don Pratt the new vice president and general manager of WCBD-TV, Media General's NBC affiliate in Charleston, S.C., effective Monday, April 21. This appointment marks a return to the Charleston market for Mr. Pratt, who served as news director of WCSC-TV, the CBS affiliate in Charleston, from 2001-2005.
“We are delighted to attract such a talented broadcast leader to WCBD,” said Bob Peterson, vice president of broadcast markets for Media General. “Don understands the Charleston market from a news perspective and what drives its audience. ”
Since July 2012, Pratt has been vice president and general manager of KBOI-TV and KYUU-TV in Boise, Idaho, where he led the station to its highest average local news ratings in five years.
Prior to that, Mr. Pratt served for six years as news director of KATU-TV in Portland, Oregon.
In his 24 years in the broadcast industry, he has served at several stations, including WHDH-TV in Boston, WCSC-TV in Charleston and KGO-TV in San Francisco. Mr. Pratt holds a master's degree in Mass Communications from Emerson College and a bachelor's degree in Broadcast Journalism from Syracuse University.
