“A Meal to Remember,” East Cooper Meals on Wheels' annual gala and auction presented by Motley Rice, will take place on Wednesday, April 30, at the Omar Shrine. Doors open to all guests at 6:45 p.m. Each year guests gather for this black-tie optional affair to enjoy signature small plates from more than a dozen local chefs, live and silent auctions, and music performed by the Dave Landeo Band. Guests will feast on culinary delights ranging from traditional southern favorites to international dishes while bidding on items donated by more than 100 businesses in our community. The evening concludes with a fast-paced, live auction, featuring all-inclusive getaways, one-of-a-kind excursions and unique packages for every lifestyle.
This signature event focuses on creating an enjoyable evening for our guests and generating resources to ensure that none of our homebound neighbors, regardless of age or income, ever pays for a meal or is ever placed on a waiting list.
In 2013, East Cooper Meals on Wheels delivered 134,945 meals to homebound residents who reside in Mount Pleasant, Wando, Cainhoy, Daniel Island, Isle of Palms and Sullivan's Island. Last year's gala and auction raised more than $100,000, which provided for one-third of the meals delivered last year.
“The funds raised during the annual gala and auction are symbolic of the sense of caring our community has for our homebound residents. The generosity demonstrated each year continues to grow,” said George Roberts, president and CEO. “And this year, there is an opportunity to amplify the funds raised during the gala through a special Coastal Community Foundation campaign, expanding the financial impact of each gift – making our signature event truly ‘A Meal to Remember.'” For tickets or more information about the gala and auction, please call East Cooper Meals on Wheels at 843-881-9350.
