The Charleston Festival of Choirs committee is pleased to announce the Sixth Annual Charleston Festival of Choirs, Saturday, April 26. This free, one-day festival will feature world-renowned conductor and choral clinician Dr. Craig Jessop, former music director of the world famous Mormon Tabernacle Choir. Dr. Jessop will serve at festival director and conduct the participating choirs in a finale Massed Sing at 5 p.m. The event will take place at Circular Congregational Church, 150 Meeting St., in downtown Charleston. Freewill donations are accepted.
The CSO Spiritual Ensemble will serve as host choir and present a performance that will be proceeded by the Choral Arts Experience of Mount Pleasant; Island Choraliers of Kiawah and Seabrook Island; Riverside High School Chorus, Durham, N.C., Bartram Trail High School Festival Choir, St. Johns, Fla.; and the acclaimed CSO Gospel Choir under the direction of Candace B. McLeod.
The festival is a joint venture between Lee Pringle, founder and president of the CSO Spiritual Ensemble and CSO Gospel Choir, Jodi Breckenridge, owner, Music Contact International of Burlington, Vermont and Marilyn Austin, former choral director at Wando High School.
