Two local nonprofits, the Singers of Summerville and the Flowertown Players, are joining forces on a musical, cabaret-style fundraiser. “What I Did for Love: 100 Years of Show Tunes,” is a celebration of musicals from 1910 through 2010. The benefit will be May 9 and 10 at the James F. Dean Community Theatre, just in time for Mother’s Day.
Susan Storm, a member of the Singers of Summerville, is the driving force behind the benefit fundraiser. She approached David Tripp, president of the Flowertown Players board of directors, with the idea of collaborating.
“By collaborating on this benefit, I feel the Singers of Summerville and the Flowertown Players are epitomizing the meaning of community,” said Tripp. “Working together, we are able to maximize our talents and logistics to raise funds needed to aid the continuation of our organizations.”
Tickets for the performance on May 9 are $20 per person or $35 per couple. The silent auction will begin at 7 p.m. and the show starts at 8 p.m. The performance on May 10 is $25 per person or $45 per couple and includes an auction preview wine and cheese reception at 7 p.m. The show begins at 8 p.m. The live auction will take place during intermission.
Both organizations were well represented at auditions and are currently in the process of creating an enjoyable evening of song and dance. After watching auditions, Tripp commented, “Arts and cultural activities bring people together, enhance the quality of our lives, impact the economy and shape our community.”
