The 2014 Family Day at Awendaw Green is going to be a very special day and a great opportunity to celebrate the Moultrie News’s presence in the community. This event and our other events celebrating the 50th anniversary are made possible by the support of our sponsors: Womble Carlyle – Innovators at Law, Wando Family Dentistry, Billy Swails – State Farm. Our partners include Royall Ace Hardware, McDaniel’s Auto Group, GlassPro and Linda Witte.

Awendaw Green is a hidden gem in the East Cooper community. Bands play on a stage with a barn backdrop, giving the grounds a low-key ambiance, but it is arguably one of the coolest music venues in the Lowcountry. With bands of all ages playing on the stage from open to close of this event, there is something for the whole family. Bands include: Cairo Middle School Jazz Band, Shem Creek Blues Band, Jesse and Friends Band, Stephen O’Connor, Jack Triebold, Lizzie Covington, Karoline Rhett, Volcanoes in the Kitchen, Southern Gentleman, Mozo, and The Travelin’ Kine. Some of these vocalists are just beginning their musical journeys, like 13-year-old Lizzie Covington, while others are seasoned vets on the microphone.

Along with the music, we have Frisbee golf and food from some of the area’s best food trucks. The food trucks include: Lowcountry Creole, Lowcountry Fun Foods, Chucktown Ice and King of Pops. These food trucks will be serving up a wide variety of food from gator bites to soft pretzels to southern barbecue to assorted flavors of Italian ice and popsicles.

In addition to all of the music, family activities and food trucks, Wando Culinary School will be joining us.

The Moultrie News is proud to support Carolina Studios and Awendaw Green with this event. All proceeds from the event go to these two great organizations. Carolina Studios has created a program that provides a fun, safe environment for youths to develop their potential through the exploration of digital recording, digital photography, videography and graphic arts.

Awendaw Green is an outlet for original music makers to showcase themselves. With barn jams every Wednesday in the spring, this venue provides those who want to spread their passion with a space to let their creative noises flow.
