The Crabpot Players Theatre will welcome New York City Joffrey Ballet Concert Group for two performances on April 29 and 30 at their new performing arts center located at 1137 Johnnie Dodds Blvd.
“We are extremely excited and honored to host this world-renowned premier institution of American dance in our performing arts center,” said founder and Artistic Director Jimmy Ward.
“The Joffrey Ballet School is located in the heart of New York City and serves as a platform for some of our nation's best young dancers. The Joffrey Concert Group Performance Series' current repertoire includes classical and contemporary ballets, as well as world premieres and innovative choreography. We look forward to sharing their love of ballet with our Lowcountry audience.”

Under Artistic Director Davis Robertson, the the Joffrey Ballet Concert Group performs a diverse repertoire including classic works by Gerald Arpino as well as new works from emerging contemporary choreographers, such as Larry Keigwin. The group has recently completed multiple tours in the United States to rave reviews and opened the Florence Dance Festival in Italy this past summer.
The company's current repertoire includes a wide variety of classical and contemporary ballets including signature Gerald Arpino works “Light Rain” and “Kettentanz.” The program may also feature world premieres by Shawn Hounsell and Julie Bour as well as the work of young and exciting choreographer Africa Guzman, the former Associate Artistic Director of Compañía Nacional de Danza under Nacho Duato.
The Crabpot Players Theatre recently opened at a permanent address in Mount Pleasant. Season 21 is underway with the production of the “Last of the Red Hot Lovers” concluding April 24 through 26.
The season's finale will feature ?Gypsy” on May 2, 3, and 9 at 7 p.m. and May 4, 10 and 11 at 2 p.m.
This Tony Award-winning musical is directed by Angelia Grech and features a full orchestra. “Gypsy” is the ultimate story about an aggressive stage mother. Join Rose, June and Louise in their trip across the United States during the 1920s, when vaudeville was dying and burlesque was born.
Jule Styne's timeless music and Stephen Sondheim's memorable lyrics include such classic hit songs as “Let Me Entertain You,” “Some People,” “You'll Never Get Away from Me,” “If Momma Was Married,” “All I Need is the Girl” and “Together Wherever We Go.” These performances are sure to entertain.
