We all know the benefits of Yoga. Yoga improves your body physically by strengthening muscles and increasing flexibility. It boosts your immune system, helps you sleep better and eases migraines, among many other health benefits. But what about art? What kind of health benefits does art provide? Well, art is a form of therapy; it reduces stress, enhances cognitive abilities and memory, stimulates imagination, and the list goes on. To Joy Roschella-Everest, it seemed only appropriate to combine the two to maximize all of these benefits. YogArt with Joy Roschella-Everest combines an hour of yoga and an hour of art into a class that helps channel your physical creativity and then translate that creativity into art. There is a difference between physical and mental creativity and Yogart allows students to tap into both over the course of a two-hour session. The goal is to bring you to a level of physical creativity where you are encouraged to paint with your whole body.
This Yoga/Art class series helps to cultivate awareness and to translate sensations and feelings into a unique visual language. Working with art and the physical body both provides opportunities for cultivating awareness.
Each class will focus on a different Chakra, which are the seven centers of spiritual power in the human body. Each Chakra correlates with a section of the human body, a color, an element and an emotion.
All of which are explored during the yoga portion of the class and then translated into inspiration for the art portion.
Those involved leave their fears and egos at the door and focus on health and personal creativity. Classes are held at EOS Art Supply located at in the CVS shopping center at 1405 Ben Sawyer Blvd., in Mount Pleasant, S.C. YogArt classes take place Mondays, 4-6 p.m. and 6:30-8:30 p.m.; Wednesdays, 4-6 p.m.; and Tuesday mornings from 9-11 a.m.
