Summer Thursday Uncorked at Southern Season

  • Sunday, April 27, 2014

Southern Season is located at 730 Coleman Blvd. in Mount Pleasant. PROVIDED

Every Thursday, Southern Season hosts “Thursdays Uncorked,” a series of tasting events featuring wines from around the world and food pairings. Tickets are $15 and the tastings begin at 5 p.m.

On Thursday, May 1, experience “Refreshing Whites and Reds for the Beach.” While many believe bare feet and wine bottles don't mix, Southern Season does. Stop by and learn about red and white recommendations for your summer sojourns.

Thursday, May 8, is “Rosés for All Occasions.” Rosés move seamlessly from afternoon to evening during the spring and summer months.

A light-bodied wine matched with red and pink hues, rosés pair well with summer meals.

On Thursday, May 15, learn about “Rare Grape Varieties.” Cabernet and chardonnay are safe decisions for dinner parties, but the Wine Department at Southern Season has unique suggestions to end your ubiquitous cab and chard selections.

Thursday, May 22, is “Pinots from Around the World.” Try Old World and New World Pinots, highlighting pinot blanc, pinot gris and pinot noir wine varietals.

Thursday, May 29, sample the “Wines of Austria.” The story of Austrian wines does not end with grüner veltliner, a peppery white wine indigenous to Austria. Gaining popularity among Americans as some of the most food-friendly wines are Blaufränkisch, Sankt Laurent and Welschriesling, to name a few. While Austrian wines remain a minority, sample the superb varietals available.

Thursday, June 5, try the “Favorite Wines from Films.” Southern Seaon believes wine and film fit together well. Stop in and try a movie-themed wine tasting.

Then on Thursday, June 12, sample the “Wines of Germany.” In the 1980s and 90s, the slogan A.B.C. – Anything but Chardonnay – gained ground among America's wine aficionados, thus they reached for high-acid German Rieslings and have not looked back. Stop by and try a variety of German wines, ranging from sweet to dry.

Bring it all back home on Thursday, June 19, with the “Wines of America.” From New York, Virginia, North Carolina, Idaho, Washington, Oregon, California and New Mexico, stop by and try wine from a swath of states, each with its own endearing accent.
