  • Sunday, May 4, 2014

The Nuovo Cinema Italiano Film Festival will host “La Grande Bellezza,” an evening of film, food and fun on Thursday, May 8 from 5:30-8:30 p.m. at the School of Science and Mathematics, 202 Calhoun St. at the College of Charleston.

The event will feature Italian club music, delectable “apertivo,” including prosecco cocktails, and a number of Italian-themed silent auction items to benefit the Nuovo Cinema Italiano Film Festival held in November.

The 2014 Oscar-winning film by Italian director Paolo Sorrentino, “La Grande Bellezza” or “The Great Beauty,” is about the glamorous lifestyle of Jep Gambardella (played by Toni Servillo), an intellectual and trend-setter in contemporary Rome.

Admission is $30 per person or $50 per couple and free to current members: tickets will be sold at the door.

Dressy or theme attire is encouraged.

Nuovo Cinema Italiano Film Festival, an annual four-day event celebrating contemporary Italian film and culture, will be held November 6-9 at The Sotille Theatre and presented by the Italian Studies Program at the College of Charleston.
