PCA soccer draws Beaufort Academy in playoff opener

Palmetto Christian girls soccer topped Charleston Collegiate, 5-1, Friday on Johnís Island to secure the No. 4 seed in the lower bracket of the Class A-AA playoffs.

The Lady Eagles will travel to Beaufort Academy Tuesday in the opening round of the single-elimination tournament. Theyíre aligned with Spartanburg Day and Christian Academy in the lower bracket.

Palmetto Christian (7-5) fired away 51 shots on goal Friday while allowing Charleston Collegiate just eight.

The Lady Eagles took 24 shots before Taylor Christo found the back of the net in the 34th minute to break the scoreless tie. Karris Ripple added a second goal in the 38th minute off an assist from Emma Patrick to send the Eagles into halftime leading 2-0.

Christo set up Morgan Cox for a goal in the 48th minute and Lizzie Wilson added another in the 51st.

Charleston Collegiate Mikael Odum eventually broke the shutout with a goal in the 58th minute. Gracelyn Stanton answered back for the Eagles in the 79th with Palmetto Christianís fifth goal.
