Kayla Bannister hit 3 for 4 with three RBIs and a run scored and Brooke Gilbert finished 3 for 5 with three RBIs and a run to lead the Warriors past the top-seeded Wildcats and into Wednesday's District V title game. Wando (17-9) will host either Beaufort or Lexington, who face off Monday.
Freshman Alyssa Heinrich earned the win for the Warriors, allowing seven earned runs off 14 hits with just one walk and four strikeouts through nine innings.
Wando entered the bottom of the seventh inning with an 8-5 lead, but Lexington answered. Shipley Yonkers singled to drive in Emily Mattone before Abby Welch tied the game with a single to score Ashley Camp and Sydney Garling.
After three quick outs by both teams in the eighth, Wando rallied off four runs in the ninth to regain control. Bannister singled in Kendall Schweers; Virginia Moore scored on an infield error, and Gilbert drove in Bannister and Jessica Cain with a single.
Garling knocked in Yonkers to cut into the lead in the bottom of the ninth. With runners at first and second and one out, Welch doubled to drive in Garling. As Lexington eyed another rally, Heinrich closed the door. The freshman forced a fly out and then ended the game with a swinging strikeout.
Moore finished 4 for 5 with an RBI and four runs scored. Welch led Lexington at the plate, hitting 4 for 5 with five RBIs and a run scored. Courtney White tossed eight strikeouts but suffered the loss for the Wildcats, allowing 11 earned runs off 14 hits and two walks.
