PCA track places in top three at state

Palmetto Christian boys and girls track and field both turned in top-three finishes at last weekend’s SCISA Class A-AA state championship at Heathwood Hall in Columbia.

Palmetto Christian boys finished third with 41.5 team points, 12 points off of second place Spartanburg Christian. Trinity-Brynes finished first with 52 team points.

The Lady Eagles tallied 46 points, finishing just two points behind state champion Spartanburg Christian.

Three of Palmetto Christian’s four boys competitors won individual titles with first-place finishes. Junior Mitch Hogan was named A-AA boys MVP, winning pole vault (9-00) and placing second in the 400-meter dash (54.39), 110 hurdles (18.90) and 400 hurdles (1:09.58).

Joe Siegwald won the triple jump (41-03), placed second in the long jump (19-07), third in the high jump (5-06) and fourth in the 200 (23.93). Ben German won the high jump (5-08), and eighth-grader Collin Casey finished third in the 1,600 (5:08.76) and 3,200 (10:48.34).

Junior Annie Pascutti was named A-AA girls MVP, winning the triple jump (33-01.25), high jump (4-10), and finishing second in the 400 hurdles (1:10.35).

The Lady Eagles had a strong showing from their underclassmen as freshman Maggie Hogan finished first in pole vault (8-00), and eighth-grader Bethany Holden took second (7-06).

Freshman McKenzie Patrick finished first in the 400 (1:01.01), second in the 100 (13.50) and second in the 200 (28.06). Seventh-grader Lauren Pernell placed second in the 100 hurdles (18.35) and third in the 400 hurdles (1:11.42) Freshman Elizabeth Goolsby took second in the high jump (4-10).

Holden, Pernell, Patrick and Taylor Cristo combined to finish third in the 400 relay (4:29.12). Holden teamed up with Cristo, Kylah Chase and Kylee Keenan for a third-place finish in the 800 relay (13:13.56).
