Wando tennis sweeps Ashley Ridge in playoff opener

Wando boys tennis stormed into the Class AAAA playoffs with a 6-0 win over Ashley Ridge Tuesday in Mount Pleasant.

The No. 1 seeded Warriors allowed the Swamp Foxes no more than one game in one of 12 sets.

Warriors No. 1 Jacob Jahn and No. 5 Greg Winglosky both rolled to perfect 6-0, 6-0 singles wins. Kyle McSheehy and Clayton Cox teamed up to blank Chase Nixon and Duncan Kackley in doubles play.

Wando No. 2 Andrew DaCosta defeated Michael Marshall, 6-1, 6-1. No. 3 Carter Weston topped Blake Ackerman, 6-1, 6-3, and No. 4 Parker Lopresti beat Zack Rabon, 6-1, 6-1.

Wando hosts No. 3 seed Dutch Fork in the second round Thursday. Dutch Fork defeated No. 2 seed Carolina Forest, 4-2, Tuesday.

Class AA No. 1 seed Bishop England opens in the playoffs Monday against the winner of Thursday’s opening round match between Williston-Elko and Dillon. The Bishops had a first-round bye.
