After noticing a tattered American flag on one of the shrimp boats, a group of Mount Pleasant women offered to purchase new flags for each shrimp boat in time for the Blessing of the Fleet festival.

Arrangements were made with captain Mark Richardson to coordinate with the other shrimp boat captains, and Bob Boyles, of American Flagpoles and Flags, offered a discount for these South Carolina-made flags. Boy Scout Troop 40 presented the flags to David Richardson and Rocky Magwood at a gathering at Shem Creek on Tuesday, April 22. The scouts also took the old flags to dispose of during a special scout ceremony. Richardson and Magwood have graciously offered to take the boys shrimping this June.
