AAAA softball playoffs: Bluffton slugs Wando

Wando softball fell, 14-4, to Bluffton in the AAAA Lower State semifinal game Monday.

The Warriors will host Summerville Wednesday in an elimination game to advance to Friday's Lower State title game at Bluffton.

Bluffton (26-3) rang up 16 hits and scored five runs off seven Wando errors. Courtney Smith earned the win for Bluffton, striking out eight and allowing six hits and three walks through five innings.

The Bobcats scored four runs in the first innings, four in the second, four in the fourth and added two more in the fifth.

Taylor Gleason hit 3 for 3 with three RBIs and two runs scored, Kim Kirby 1 for 3 with two RBIs and two runs scored, and Morganne Parker 4 for 5 with an RBI and two runs scored.

Sydney Segars scored off a wild pitch for Wando (19-10) in the top of the second. The Warriors added three runs in the fifth as Kayla Bannister doubled in Kendall Schweers; Virginia Moore scored off a Morgan Howard sacrifice fly, and Bannister came home on a passed ball.

Alyssa Heinrich suffered the loss for Wando on the mound, allowing nine earned runs off 16 hits, two walks with two strikeouts through 4 1/3 innings.

Wando hit 6 for 21 as a team. Moore finished 2 for 3 with a run scored.
