The Crab Festival is a hometown favorite, but this year neighbors to the north and south are joining in on the fun.

The Town of Awendaw Crab Festival is a hometown favorite, but neighbors to the north and south of this rural area are joining in on the fun too. Each year, the event brings out more than 1,000 crab lovers to pick on fresh, local blue crabs.

Held at Camp Sewee, 7407 Doar Road, this event is scheduled for Oct. 4. But much work and planning goes into the event, including securing sponsors and vendors.

Anyone interested in being a part of this growing tradition should call Gregory Saxton at Town Hall at 843-928-3100. Sponsorships begin at $100.

Don't forget to save the date. Tickets only cost $2 at the gate and children 12 and under are free. There will be live music, crafts and exhibits.

No coolers are allowed and pets must be leashed. Bring chairs. Gates open from noon to 5 p.m.
