Local efforts rewarded for beautification and environmental improvements

Community Pride, Inc. of Charleston County will hold its 48th Annual Awards Luncheon on Friday, May 16 to announce Incentive and Pride Award winners being honored for their outstanding efforts to improve our community in 2014.

Vonie Gilreath, chairman of Pride Board of Directors, will preside over the event, and the awards will be announced and presented to the recipients by Charleston County Council members Colleen Condon and Herb Sass, Ravenel Mayor Opal Baldwin, Mount Pleasant Mayor Linda Page, City of North Charleston Mayor Keith Summey and City of Charleston Mayor Joe Riley.

“There is tremendous value in recognizing the individuals, clubs, businesses and government or civic organizations that are dedicated to providing a cleaner more attractive environment for citizens and visitors to the area,” Gilreath said.

The award winners for 2014 are:

Environmental Education Award 1st Place – Melrose Garden Club

Environmental Education Award 2nd Place – St. Paul’s Garden Club

Community Improvement Award 1st Place – Council of Garden Clubs of Greater Chas.

Community Improvement Award 2nd Place – South Windermere Garden Club

Adopt-A-Highway Awards

1st Place – James Island Pride

2nd Place – Sitting on Chrome Auto Club

Johnnie Dodds Education Awards

1st Place – Michelle Lee, James Island Charter High School

2nd Place – The Green Heat Project and Zucker Middle School

3rd Place – Jamie Gillette, Keep Charleston Beautiful
